Now and Beyond...

Education Trends evident in 2020 and beyond

Customized  Learning Experiences

Improvement in education technology will make it easier for teachers to offer a broader variety of content. Students, who have become more devices -savvy than ever, will be able to explore education through the media  that resonate with them closely. This may be in many areas of learning, for example,problem-solving in a digital modern learning environment, finding  new ways to understand spelling through games, or carrying out an experiment in a virtual lab in the comfort of their houses/classrooms.

This digital explosion of possibility  makes teachers  jobs easier and better. For instance, it will take less work to set learners on the right path during the teaching/learning process. This in turn helps teachers  to redeem time that  they  need to properly help learners on individualized levels especially if they experience certain learning challenges.

Learner-Centered Approach

The  concept of student-led approach   is based on a simple model; this is, passion drives motivation. When we tap into learners  interests, it becomes much easier to build on skills and knowledge that flows from within .

This year,2020,we are likely to see a reinvigorated focus on building lessons based on learners’ interest and their personal learning goals. With the learner away from routine in physical schools and classrooms, rediscovery of personal interests and passions must happen. It is very likely that what had been suppressed or ignored in our learners will be nurtured and teachers will be dealing with very different learners when schools resume.

 Adaptive Learning

Although adaptive learning  is a departure from the traditional way of teaching ,teachers could start thinking of it as a “new norm”. This system uses data from each learner  to adjust learning for students on an individual scale. This is informed by the fact that ,keeping to one-size-fits-all approach does not fit so well around the needs of modern learners. Thanks to technology ,we are approaching a point where educational software can be more easily tailored around the needs of learners, teachers as well as content creators. The objective, as always, is to provide customized education to deliver the right content at the right time.

With adaptive learning, teachers can create engaging, personalized learning experiences. This enables a more inclusive approach to education, meaning challenged and advanced learners get the attention they require even if they sit in the same class.

As class sizes continue to grow, adaptive learning provides an effective way for teachers to guide every learner  through each challenging lesson without over extending themselves.

Emerging Technology

In reality, technology in itself is nothing new as we have  been dealing with an influx of new education technology for years now. However, in 2020 and beyond, this technology will be getting even more advanced. This is fueled by the need that’s arising to keep the learning going on despite the physical closure of schools at the present. The teaching/learning process has evolved, but has not halted, all thanks to technology.

The  major objective here is to facilitate more innovative teaching methods while enabling more engaging learning opportunities. If and when used correctly, the opportunity here is enormous and stimulating hence driving passion. Learners will have access to better and personalized learning experiences without ever leaving their houses .For instance, a learner who has passion in historical cities may take a tour of the “ Ancient Rome” with a realistic simulation by a click of a button.

Technology is a reality of the modern world, teachers know this. Majority of  teachers think that flows using technology better prepares students for future careers. As we prepare to resume next year, many of us will be more open to  embracing all things digital and having a bit more fun with it!!

In conclusion

Hopefully, as schools resume ,we  will see the education sector taking bigger strides towards custom-tailored  learning. Learner  engagement is the name of the game and educators will continue to find new avenues  to customize the learning experience for each learner. Technology will play a big role in this continued shift. As the instruments we use advance, our approach to education will evolve into a more passion and personalized process. However, this does not intend to imply that education will become more robotic or that the teacher becomes obsolete, rather that teachers will be able to build their work tools  around real-time and realistic insights into their learners’ needs.
